Visualisation and Motion Tracking Studies

During Rui Lopes Graça's creative process, we had the chance to closely follow his interactions with the dancers, and what classical tools he had in his hands to guide, correct, and create.

We captured several examples of small individual performances, group and individual rehearsals, and used that data to drive our research regarding 3D reconstruction of point cloud videos. We have also developed tools to support the creative process.

Supported by this type of media, we developed techniques to visualize movement qualities, and prototyped a virtual reality annotation system, where some of the typical documenting tasks done during the creative process could be performed in an immersive environment.

Virtual Reality Annotator

The Virtual Reality Annotator is a visualisation tool that allows users to dynamically annotate dancers in a virtual reality environment. The current annotation types supported are sketches, speech-to-text and highlighting. More

Three-Dimensional Visualisation

Three-Dimensional Visualisation

Analysing and documenting contemporary dance movement data has proven to be a very difficult task due to the vast existence of styles and aesthetics, which are characteristic of each individual choreographer. More
