Samuel Viana Meyler

Researcher

Samuel holds a PhD in the Performing Arts, a collaboration between the Champalimaud Neuroscience Program and the Faculdade de Letras, specialising in the role of perception in the artistic process. His interests include the role of the body in providing social information, and his work incorporates both behavioural neuroscience and physical theatre. He has also co-created various projects that bring artists and scientists together in an attempt to create a third space between the disciplines.

Having originally graduated as a conservational biologist, he worked in various places throughout Africa with endangered mammals, including cetaceans and primates. Later he moved to Paris and then Brussels where he studied physical movement and theatre, of which he now currently teaches various courses in Lisbon and abroad.
