Silvia Rijmer: Multimodal Glossary
Terminology: Properties and Characteristics
Dodging Mode
- Agonist (AGO): the one that initiates an action
- Antagonist (ANT): the “other” body which affects the AGO
- Dodging: AGO redirects body trajectory to avoid collision with ANT (moving or still)
- Evading: AGO re-configures body location to allow ANT to occupy that same space
- Frame: a Form from which to duplicate in shape or orientation (and in the case of “stealing a Still” relative to spatial location)
- Still: the exact duplication of the proposed Frame
Scanning Mode
- Prime Mover (PM): A particular place (locus) in the body from which the movement initiates
- Simple CMP: with an uninterrupted flow and trajectory (Organic*)
- Redirect CMP: deliberated CMP initiated by another PM which results in multiple flows and multiple trajectories (according to the Body-Logic of the dancer)
- Agonist (AGO): the dancer Scanning
- Antagonist (ANT): the distractors (external stimuli: people/sound/thing) which alter one’s state of being*
- Trajectory: The shape of the path of the movement: linear, curves, shapes: Around (in horizontal plane, or Vertical Plane)
- Direction: The direction of the path of the movement: Front, Back, Up, Down, Diagonal, Curve, etc.
- Facing: The orientation of the trunk broadly speaking (person): either deliberately Paused Facing (still, not moving) or in a continuous Flow Facing (like in a turn/spin)
- Movement Potential: The potentiality of movement following a suggested gesture
- Con-Sequential Movement Pattern (CMP): A movement (in flow) engaging multiple body parts as a consequence of the PM(s)
*Organic: A natural sequence of the musculo-skeletal body
*State of Being: An overall alteration in one’s form/typology/trajectory/direction etc.
